Stefan expecting acceptance within a week - Formula 1 news - GPUpdate.net
Stefan Grand Prix team owner Zoran Stefanovic is confident that his team will be on the starting grid for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix in just over two week's time. Furthermore, the Serbian businessman believes that significant developments will take place between now and this time next week.
With the new Campos and US F1 teams struggling to be ready on time and possibly needing to miss races as a consequence, Stefanovic is ready to travel to Bahrain despite having had to cancel a test in Portugal this week due to having no tyre supply.
"Definitely, we are waiting for something to happen because the time is very short and the deadline for Bahrain is approaching," he explained to Reuters. "If you are going to Bahrain, you have to be packed by next Wednesday and we think we will be able to reach something by then."
He added that a chance remains of the team joining the fray later in the year, if necessary, but added that Sakhir remains the target. With ex Williams pilot Kazuki Nakajima already signed up, courtesy of Stefan's close working relationship with Toyota, it now seems that putting pen to paper is the only task remaining for 1997 Champion Jacques Villeneuve.
"It's not happened yet but everything except his signature had been done," Stefanovic continued. "Probably in the next two or three days we will be reaching some sort of agreement."
