Ecclestone places bid for Saab
Ecclestone places bid for Saab - Formula 1 news - GPUpdate.net
Formula 1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone is believed to be interested in buying Saab, the currently struggling General Motors-owned outfit. According to financial experts Bloomberg, the Englishman is bidding for the Swedish car manufacturer with Genii Capital, owner of the Renault team, plus former F1 racers Spyker.
With Saab being one in a selection of companies that General Motors (GM) is looking to sell off, others include Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer.
The Ecclestone, Genii and Spyker link is believed to be shared with a group of Swedish investors, with Saab now close to breathing its last breath. All interested parties submitted bids before a 5pm deadline in New York last Wednesday.
"It's a good brand that has probably been neglected by the current owners," Ecclestone, of Formula One Management (FOM), commented. "We don't own it yet, so let's see what happens."

+1. Ecclestone is a fool (we already knew that, though) if he seriously plans to buy Saab. Let 'em die for christ's sake!

"Yes, the average customer probably won't realize that this new 9-5 is, in fact, around 12 years old when we disguise it with new headlamps and wheels, and they probably won't realize that it was shit when it was new, is shit now and will be shit in 5 years."
