Confirmed: Rosberg to Mercedes for 2010

Formula One news: Confirmed: Rosberg to Mercedes for 2010 - GPUpdate.net Formula One

As expected, Mercedes has announced that Germany's Nico Rosberg will be spearheading its 2010 line-up as the Stuttgart manufacturer prepares to return to Formula 1 for the first time since 1955. Following a press conference in Germany on Monday afternoon, the team-mate to the former Williams driver is yet to be revealed.

With the Champion Brawn team having been bought by Mercedes-Benz, at least one German driver was always expected in the line-up of 2010, with Rosberg's confirmation on Monday effectively acting as a swap with new Williams driver Rubens Barrichello.

"I am really happy to be a part of the Silver Arrows re-launch in 2010 as a driver for Mercedes," commented the 24-year-old son of 1982 World Champion Keke. "No other brand in Formula 1 can look back on such a long and successful tradition in motor racing.

"I am very proud that I will now drive for the new Mercedes team and work with Ross Brawn (Team Principal). I am more motivated than ever and can hardly wait to start testing with the new Silver Arrow and for the first race of the new season in Bahrain."

I think Rosberg showed a lot of potential this year driving for Williams and I hope he can build upon that driving for MB.

Niko proved himself over and over since GP2, this could be very interesting provided they have a good car, I would really like to see Robert Kubica in the other car but thats not going to happen.

Name notable results for Nico. Wins....0,Poles....0,Podiums....0, Fastest Laps....0. Do I really need to go on? As an individual I like him because he shows no personality flaws but as a driver in F1 his resume is pretty weak.

Consistency doesn't matter? His cars suck and Nakajima proves it.

Exactly, maybe his F1 resume is weak, but his GP2 resume is top notch, ad if GP2 is not good enough I don't know what is.

If you want to blame the car how was Vettel able to do so much with a Torro Rosso? Williams is one of the longest tenured teams in the sport, and if you want to blame the car a driver helps develop the car as much as the car helps the driver win. All season Nico and Kaz were front runners in free practice but weren't able to translate that pace to race day. Consistency? Consistently underachieving is much more like it. If you want to talk GP2 explain Grosean, Piquet JR., Alguesauri. If GP2 was such an indicator for F1 ability then Grosean and Jaime wouldn't have suffered from lack of seat time so much.
