Timo Glock out of Interlagos Race
This sucks, hope it doesn't affect seasons to come.
Contrary to expectation, the Toyota Formula One team has revealed that 2009 season regular Timo Glock will not be able to participate in next weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix, after the accident he suffered in qualifying for last week's race in Japan.
The German was initially diagnosed with only a minor cut to his leg following his accident in qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix, but subsequent medical checks following his return home have revealed a cracked vertebra, leading doctors to rule him out of the Interlagos race.
Glock's enforced absence thus re-opens the door for long-time Toyota reserve Kamui Kobayashi to step back into the cockpit, a fortnight after subbing for the German in free practice at Suzuka while Glock recovered from illness.
"Obviously, everyone in the team is very disappointed and feels for Timo," team president John Howett said, "We wish him a very speedy recovery. Based on the initial diagnosis, we fully expected Timo to return in Brazil but, unfortunately, a different injury has been revealed which prevents that. He will remain in Germany to recover and we hope he can recuperate in time for Abu Dhabi, although at this stage the situation is not clear.
"Kamui was the natural choice to step in, and he proved at Suzuka that he is capable of holding his own. It is a difficult task for him, but he knows the team will give him its complete support and we know he is motivated to make the most of this unexpected opportunity."
Kobayashi joins the team as it heads to Brazil on the back of successive podium finishes, with Glock's second place in Singapore being followed by a similar result for Jarno Trulli in Japan.
