Piquet to test in NASCAR Truck Series
Reports out of Brazil are stating that ousted Renault driver Nelson Piquet. Jr. may be considering a move to the American NASCAR Truck Series in the near future. The Brazilian, who left the Renault team after this season's Hungarian Grand Prix, is currently out of a drive after being cleared of sanctions in the 'Crashgate' hearing.
Having enjoyed immunity from governing body the FIA in the hearing for the race-fixing scandal of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, Piquet is now free to race in Formula One or indeed any other racing series, providing a drive can be found.
It is believed the 24-year-old son of the triple World Champion of the same name will be testing a NASCAR Truck Series League vehicle with the Red Horse team next Monday, 12 October; furthermore, reports explained that Piquet will be in North Carolina on Monday of this week in order for a seat fitting and fitness test.
"I'm going there just to know," he told Brazilian television broadcaster Globo. "The team invited me; it's only a test normal, no big deal."
Globo's reports also state that the 2006 GP2 runner-up is possibly looking to progress from the third division truck series by moving up one division per year, targeting the top tier of NASCAR by 2012.
