'No good reason' to change Brawn drivers

Formula One news: 'No good reason' to change Brawn drivers - GPUpdate.net Formula One

Brawn GP team principal Ross Brawn feels that there is no valid motive for changing Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello as the team's two drivers for the 2010 season. The pairing currently leads both championships in the team's first year as an independent after the departure of manufacturer Honda in December.

With Button currently leading Barrichello by 18 points in the Drivers' Championship and the team holding a 27.5-point advantage over Red Bull Racing in the Constructors' fight, 2009 has already been an impressive campaign for the Brackley team which has clinched victories in seven of the eleven Grands Prix so far.

"There is no good reason not to," Brawn said of retaining his drivers. "They are both doing a very good job so I think, after Spa, we will start to look at it. We needed to get a number of things in place before sensibly talking about drivers; the Concorde Agreement is done now - that was done in the (summer) break. We think our commercial side is going to develop well now so we can sit down after Spa, talk with the drivers and sort it out."

"You always need to look towards the future but both have made any decisions which we may or may not have to make very difficult," continued Nick Fry, the company's CEO. "If we were to run with Jenson and Rubens next year I am sure we would be very successful but it is not really at top of our minds at the moment.

"They are both winning races, they are both doing a great job and, like the commercial side, we are not short of offers - we are not with the need to rush into things; we have a good team, a great car, a superb team principal - who has won lots of championships - and I think we will be a good place to be. We are not waiting for an Alonso outcome this year as we were last season. We will make a decision in the fullness of time but it is not a priority at the moment."

The real test will come next year when we all see if they were able to spend adequate time developing the 2010 car or if this year was just a fluke.
