Renault warns suppliers of F1 exit

Formula One news: Renault warns suppliers of F1 exit - GPUpdate.net Formula One

The Renault team has tipped off suppliers that it may not be present in Formula One next season, the German media reports. With Friday being the day that the FIA reveals the list of competitors for next season and the €45m budget cap still in place, Renault Sport is believed to have informed partners that the team's future remains uncertain.

With France's diamond marque, home of Nelsinho Piquet and former double Champion Fernando Alonso, being one of the five manufacturers in Formula One to disagree with the FIA's proposed budget cap for next year, the governing body wrote to teams this week informing them that - under sporting regulations - rules cannot be changed unless granted written consent of all 13 competitors, meaning entries would have to be submitted first.

Renault's letter, believed to be dated for Tuesday 2 June and received by most of its associates at the start of this week, reads: 'The profound changes in the technical and sporting rules have the consequence that Renault Sport and its future in Formula One no longer can be safe. With this is mind, we must work in several areas; as announced by Flavio Briatore (team managing director) and Bernard Rey (team president) on 13 May, it is also possible that may not be taking part in the 2010 World Championship.'

Having entered Formula One in 1977 until 1985 and a leading engine manufacturer afterwards, Renault became the first team to with a turbo car at the 1979 French Grand Prix. The name re-entered the sport as a constructor in 2002, taking over from Benetton. Fernando Alonso claimed victory for the squad at the 2003 Hungarian Grand Prix before the company enjoyed immense success with double championship wins in both 2005 and 2006.

Where's is Fernando going to go? Take over for a retiring Kimi? Either way, Nelsinho will never race in F1 after this year, hell he shouldn't even have gotten a drive this season.

His surname accounts for all of it, I'd say.
