Right now of the 4 new Audi R8's entered, the R8's are in first and third and 6th positions!!! This is against many many veteran Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, BMW, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Ford GT teams!

WOW! What racing. I'm watching the 2nd place Manthey Porsche trying like crazy to pass the 9th place Audi R8. Another Audi R8 is in 1st place! This 2nd place Porsche is doing everything possible to get around the 9th place R8, lap after lap, as they go full speed thru the other slower traffic,... but nothing works! There is a live driver car cam in this leading Porsche, so you see everything from the driver position as well as from a helicopter up above... Very VERY intense racing against the two most perfect of new rivals ( Audi vs Porsche) on the most perfect of all race circuits, the Nordschleife!
Currently Audi R8's are in 1st and 4th, with 2 Porsches 2nd and 3rd. All 4 of these cars are on the SAME LAP! The top 10 cars are 3 Audi R8's and 7 Porsches! Sweet Stuff!

A very good friend of mine was in a e49 325i.
The overall position is 61 and in their class they came in on third place. Pretty cool!

WOW! What racing. It's now early morning in Germany, and I'm watching the 2nd place Manthey Porsche trying like crazy to pass the 9th place Audi R8*. Another R8 is in 1st place! This 2nd place Porsche is doing everything possible to get around the 9th place R8*, lap after lap, as they go full speed thru the other slower traffic,... but nothing works! Very VERY intense racing against the two most perfect of new rivals ( Audi vs Porsche) on the most perfect of all race circuits, the Nordschleife!

* Correction... This "9th place R8" was actually running in 4th place when I saw it. The live video feed had no English commentary. This car eventually finished in 2nd place and the Porsche mentioned, was the Manthey Porsche race winner! When I saw these two cars racing so closely, this R8 was trying to slow down the Porsche and thus increase the lead for the R8 that was then running in 1st place. That 1st place R8 later lost position with a wheel bearing problem, and finished 5th. I hope we will be able to see the racing of these same two cars racing in some edited parts of the race on YouTube. As it turned out, this was the race's 1st and 2nd place finishers going at it very hard and fast thru thick traffic for about 15-20 min! It was great stuff! This racing occurred around Lap 110 in the race.

The new Audi R8 LMS gave quite a good fight for its first 24HR race on the Nurburgring. Four R8's entered the race and all four finished! The "99" R8 led the race for almost all of the 1st 115 laps of the 150 total laps, and set the fastest laps for the race, but had a wheel bearing prob and finished 5th. The "97" Audi R8 finshed in 2nd place! The "98" R8 had a tranny prob. They replaced the whole tranny during the race, and the car still finished in 12th place! The 4th R8 failed at the race's start, but finally got going, and made up over 120 positions, and finished in the top 25. Despite a few endurance problems, all four Audi R8's finished the race with some great results.

After the race I think the biggest raves about the new Audi R8 LMS, came from the 3 time winning, Porsche Manthey Team. All of their drivers repeatedly mentioned that they have all become very aware that they now have a very very serious new rival in these Gt3/GT2 endurance races.

I learned that the current R8 LMS cars are NOT sold to these private teams. These first R8 LMS cars are being given to select private teams to race in partnership with Audi Sports in an effort to finish the development of the R8 LMS before they are actually sold to the public. I think the car itself will finally be available for purchase sometime in the Fall. Its a great start for this fantastique car.

Too bad there are no R8's entered in Le Mans this year. I would love to see this rivalry continued in HDTV.

The Winner!, MANTHEY PORSCHE!!!
