The Massa move is not a bad one at all. It may pay out since you bought him around 10.0 m. But Rosberg cost you too much at over 8.0 m. Sutil is a great 5th driver - but you only have a 4-man team. Take a look at your budget numbers:

Your team is only worth 33.80 m with a trade-in value of only 33.0 m. You started with 40.0 m. You have LOST 7.00 m since the start of the season. That's a quality mid-range 5th driver right there - e.g., you could buy Alonso for that right now. Get my point.

Check out my team:

My team has a trade in value of 50.4 m. That gives me some pretty nice flexibility in this crazy driver market where Massa costs less than Rubens and Kimi is under 10.0 m!

You need to pick up some very cheap guys that you think will go up in value over the next race or two and hope to get your trade-in budget back to 40.0 m. Then you will be able to move up the league. But with a 4-man team and Sutil as your 4th driver, you don't have much of a chance.

Lesson complete young grasshopper . . .

Thanks Dana, I need to keep this strategy in mind! I am curous to see how my lineup does at China and then I will make some changes, hopfully my team increases in value! Thx for the help!

Can't wait for the ChinseGP. I'm itching to see when the red and silver tide will turn. Will it be China? Bahrain? Will Lewis set aside the past two weeks and chump the competition? Here's my take: China will be a transition race. Recall how teams cannot test "on track" mid week this season? I think China will be a race where Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, and some of the others will see how some major off-track testing works on the track. They will get their practice sessions to make adjustments, but I think we may see some snafus and kinks still. A great deal of this will depend on the whole diffuser ruling. If Ferrari and McLaren go ahead with new diffusers, this will be the first race on them. It's not like diffusers are a particularly tempermental piece of technology; from what I understand, you just forge them and slap em' on. But they do change the balance, chasis, air flow, etc.--variables that teams like Brawn et al. have been tweaking and adjusting all winter. It may take one or two weekends worth of track time to sort out some tweaks for teams that go with the controversial diffuser version beginning in China. But yesterday Dana made a great point: Vettel doesn't have the diffuser and he's been performing very well (albeit with some bad luck). So the diffuser issue may not negatively affect his performance at all either way.

Just a few more days until practice and qualifying. I figured now might be a good time to awaken this thread from hibernation.

On a side note. Is the total value of all drivers a fixed amount for the entire season? So effectively if one driver gains value than another driver is losing the same amount of value so the total value of all drivers remains constant for the entire season? Just curious....

No, your total team value will increase if you pick drivers that increase in value. For instance, Erich's team is worth well over $50M and we all started with $40M.

Understanding driver values and how it affects your budget is critical. Check out my most recent Fantasy Recap for a good overview.

The all-critical diffuser ruling comes out Wednesday . . . If you have not made any changes to your lineup yet, I would wait until after the ruling. Although, I think that no matter how it comes out Ferrari and McLaren will improve. But for the three double diffuser teams (Toy, Wil, and Brawn) it will mean the world.

Keep an eye on it and we will post the news when it hits.

I'm really curious to see what will happen. Thursday's practice sessions will be the most interesting we'll see for a long time to come!

I understand that part of the equation. What I am interested in is whether or not the total sum value of ALL 20 drivers in the game remains a constant value throughout the season. So if one driver goes up in value, other driver(s) must go down in value an equal amount. Is that making sense?
