Formula One news: Brawn GP completes first test day - GPUpdate.net Formula One
The Brawn GP team completed its first ever full day of testing in Barcelona on Monday. Jenson Button's performance in the BGP 001 raised more than a few eyebrows as the Englishman remained at the top of the timesheets for the majority of the day, until sinking to fourth in the final quarter of the session.
Having run a shakedown of the car at Silverstone last week, the team were focussing on consistency and reliability for Barcelona's first day of running; this they achieved, with 82 laps completed without any major worries. Button also performed a simulated race start as well as further developing the 2009 Bridgestone Potenza slick tyres. With Rubens Barrichello stepping into the driving seat for Tuesday's running, Jenson evaluated his first full day of testing with the rebranded outfit:
"It has been a good first day in the BGP 001 with our new team. I'd like to start by thanking everyone at the team for all the hard work that has contributed to getting us here today. We have enjoyed a positive opening day of running at our first test, which we are all very pleased with."
Although no critical complications intervened with the day's progress, a small issue did befall the team in the afternoon, as Button explained: "We did experience a problem with the gearbox late in the day but we knew we might face some reliability issues in view of our lack of testing. Fortunately, it's a minor problem that is easily addressed. It's early days yet, but generally it has been a positive start to our pre-season preparations."
