Formula One news: McLaren boss - we did everything right - GPUpdate.net Formula One
Stewards, however deemed that Hamilton had gained an advantage from cutting the corner which enabled him to easily pass Raikkonen in the next corner, La Source. Dennis revealed that he had been in contact with race director Charlie Whiting about the incident to check if the team had done everything necessary, although Whiting is not and has no influence over stewards' decisions.
"Inevitably we wanted to check if that was ok and Charlie Whiting gave his opinion that we would be okay," Dennis added.

It was also noted by McLaren that after Lewis joined up behind Kimi, that Kimi was going 6.7kph faster than Lewis when they crossed the start / finish line before the next corner. So their claim that Lewis had an advantage is obviously bunk since Kimi had the higher top speed going into that next corner.
I think that it also needs to be noted that once Lewis past him after the start / finish, that wasn't the end of their battle. When the Toyota driver rejoined the track after it started raining, both Kimi and Lewis had to completely leave the racing surface and rejoin it, which changed the lead structure again. It wasn't like Lewis passing Kimi after the start / finish was the defining moment, how they handled the rain and Kimi obviously losing it into the wall determined the final outcome much more than the incident at the bus stop did.

The FIA have got it right ( shock horror ). If Hamilton hadn't chosen to run wide and taken the line through the chicane, he wouldn't have been anywhere near the back of Raikonen coming down into La Source, certainly not in a position to pass.
It was Hamiltons mistake, he put his car into that position, what was Kimi meant to do? Move over and allow him through? Yeah right, he had the corner, and had every right to hold his line. If the shortcut through the chicane hadn't been ashpalt, and had been sand or a wall, Hamilton would have had to back out earlier, and followed Kimi through the chicane, some ways off the back of the Ferrari.
Hamiltons mistake, maybe McLaren has a leg to stand on because they asked for clarification, but they asked the race director, not the stewards, which is critical.
Don't forget guys, im a Kiwi, but in this case, Barristers man crush ( ) got it wrong, and paid the consequence.
lets move on to Monza.

He's my BFF . Nobody is saying that Kimi did anything wrong. He did not. He simply maintained his racing line. And I agree that Lewis went against the regulations when he cut the chicane. The issue is whether or not he gave back all of the advantage he gained by doing so. Of course, I believe that he did. The tifosi will never agree though.
