Best Compact Camera.

Panasonic LX3?

I don't feel like taking my dSLR to Thailand, so may pick up a compact.

Throw some ideas out there.

New micro four thirds thingies?

A friend got the Olympus EP1, he's loving it. You have a reasonable choice of lenses too.

Yeah the Oylmpus is cool, but i don't really wanna spend over 1k on it. If i did, i'd buy the Lumix GF1, well, id probably save my pennies and buy the Leica X1 actually.

I want a good walk around camera. If i wanted to swap lenses, i'd take the SLR. Which is precisely what i can't be bothered doing.

Are we talking about the same stuff? The Olympusis 600$ or thereabouts ...

If you don't want to hassle with lenses, Canon G9/G10? Quality stuff, but still a bit big maybe ...

I love my G9. But if you're looking for a great little pocket cam, check out the new Canon Powershot S90. This is assuming you already own and are comfortable with a DSLR. Full manual control, RAW files, pocketable. CHEAP!! Really sweet.

Panasonic ZR1.
-Same name as a car model - cool.
-Only uses the LCD (no eye viewer port) - poor.

Great compact in all other manners including wide to zoom capabilities.

Oh yah, f2.0 lens, Optical IS etc. Oops, I'm still talking about the Canon. But ultimately, the best one to buy is the one you'll use. Find one that feels comfortable in your hands.

Canon makes my favorite compact camera.. They make everything in house, from the optics to the firmware, so everything is in harmony with each other. I've used all of the major brands by now and Canon has been the fastest.

Hell, I've even considered switching over my dSLR from Nikon to Canon just because of how well my compact Canon SD870is has performed.

The Nikons are nice. I bought my 15 year daughter one for Christmas. The Nikon Transfer Software is very user friendly. She has the Coolpix S610.

Think we are, but i was talking in my money sorry.

The S90 looks sweet, and its their response to the LX3. And they are both the same price.
