This happened to my little bro in Navy basic. The DI was trying to be a hardass. When you've grown up under the discipline of a Navy mom with 20 years in the service, not much will really scare you. My brother made the mistake of smirking at the DI, which landed him knee-deep in a lot of PT. He said that was the most he had ever run in Basic.
