My Last College Football Game Photography!
#1
I just recently shot my last game of the season for our football team (The Bulls) at Raymond James Stadium, home of the Buccaneers.
It was the last home game of the season for our Seniors on the team. My feelings were a mixture of sheer happiness and saddened nostalgia realizing the season was over. I really enjoyed my time spent shooting the events and am happy to have been able to provide photos for all of the players, their families, and fans like myself to keep forever.
Most of our starters on the team were seniors so it will be interesting to see how next season plays out with their new replacements. You definitely grow with the teams you photograph regularly even if you are just merely another photographer on the sidelines shooting their games.
I came into this university with a little spark for sports and never previously considered sports photography a true passion of mine. Mind you, I never shot any sports before this, period. Talk about an interesting interview I had for this job initially.
"I'm assuming since you applied for this position you've covered your fair share of sporting events? I'm viewing your website as we are speaking and I can't find any athletic events you've covered... "
"Well, to be honest, I've shot....well, yeah, never shot a sporting event...."
How I managed to land a full time photography gig for a university of 45,000 students having never photographed a sporting event in my life is beyond me. I can only laugh and be severely thankful for the position I am in.
Now I can say I have definitely found my passion and niche in the photography world. I hope to cover sports a lot more and can only wish something higher comes of it.
It's a rush to photograph something so unplanned and spontaneous. No soft boxes, no strobes, no posing, just adrenaline and a competitiveness to win and capture that single photograph that will make the headlines of every sports page on the net and print magazine.
With that said, here are some of my shots from my last game:
