Does it actually build up beyond just coating the side walls? What ill effect has this documented to cars? When I worked at LR the techs would notice this build up after like 15k miles. It caused no problems on cars up to and past 100k.

It builds up on the valves as well. We've seen verified power loss in the upper RPM's. 15-25HP at the wheels depending on the car!

Wouldn't it clean itself if you do a top speed run for 20-30 min, or is that a myth?

Cool- good to know. I guess the rover folk weren't paying attention to their performance. Would using an oil with different additives help prevent the buildup?
