B7 S4 vs B8 S4 vs S5?
#1
Hey everyone!
I'm planning my next car, and I'm curious to find out which would be best, between a 2005-2008 S4, a 2009+ S4, and a 2007+ S5.
I'd be buying it second hand and using it as a daily driver.
I don't have kids nor am I regularly transporting anything, except myself, so I do like the coupe idea.
However, if the sedan is a better car for possibly other reasons anyone could mention, then I'd go with that.
Which is a better engine, the V8 or V6?
Anything worth mentioning in terms of reliability?
Do any of the models have a flappy paddle option?
I've been driving a stick for 10 years and I'd like to change it up with that or an auto.
I checked out the threads in this section and have read lots of good things about the B7/B8 S4, but not much about the S5.
Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

V6 Supercharged engine by far. Driven both and the car just pulls so hard. The V8 is old and only sounds good with an exhaust...

B8 S4 is very reliable, have had mine for 6 months now and haven't had any issues...

Yes, all 3 do but the B8 S4 is the only one with a DSG gearbox which gives seamless shifts and is very fun. Launch control is also a fun bit that was added in only '11-present S4s....

S5 is an amazing looking car, but I wouldn't consider one without the Supercharged engine or DSG gearbox.

You're welcome.

Definitely the B8 S4, then the S5 and B7 S4 last. The V6 engine is better than the V8 by a lot IMO. The 4.2 V8 has been around forever and has outlived its useful life. It's not very lively (unless it's in an RS4) either.

i added the RS4 because it makes more sense to compare a B8 to a B7 RS4 as they are much more comparable price and performance wise.
there is no point in making a thread to compare a B7 S4 to a B8 S4, so i actually made it interesting.
