go with the new 3.0t S4.. you wont be disappointed.. Several people commented about poor gas mileage. That is the old V8 S4 they are talking about similar to my S4 avant. while being amazing cars they do get horrible gas mileage but its expected when its a v8.

Another option is the a6 avant. Great car, very hard to find though. Plus there is a new body style coming out for the A6 any day now in the states and the avant may not be coming for a while.

another option is the Q5. Similar size to the S4 and a hatch to throw all sorts of junk into. Surprising amount of rear seat room as well. Loaded you can get one around what an S4 would run. Get the sline package and you have yourself one sporty looking q5.

good luck. Its a great car

I've been seriously considering a Q5 as well Mark. I think you should at least drive one. As Vince said it's proving to be a VERY economical smaller SUV.

I don't disagree it's a cool little SUV. I just can drive an SUV or 4x4 whenever I want. We like our Mini for runs to Seattle and stuff. We even have a spot that we can park that only Mini's and smaller can fit in one of our favorite parking garages. I don't think the S4 will come close to fitting.

I've not owned a sedan for a very long time. 8 years or so I'd bet.
