Longterm Audi reliability
My dad has bribed me into finding him a nice pre owned B7 A4 (he says he is ready to buy, who knows). Considered a few, and have passed for one reason or another. An Oregon dealer has a nice, 1 owner 3.2 Quattro sedan coming in. Guy is a repeat customer, and supposedly fanatical about his cars - thing is supposed to be immaculate. Automatic transmission with the 3.2 V6 and 50K on the clock: what's the outlook for the next 100K miles? Are these things as good as I think they are?

Travis - MB and I are contemplating the same thing since her A3 warranty is up in December... I think an automatic w/V6 should be pretty worry-free, but I am not an expert on that drivetrain. The 2.0Ts (when left stock) are pretty bulletproof - it's the DSG I'm worried about there. Good luck.

You mentioned MB loves her A3, perhaps it's time for a fresh one?
I'll let you guys know how the A4 situation unfolds. Pictures and shop inspection incoming.

I have a 2004 S4 and it is probably the worst car I have ever owned. Mine had 38k on the clock when I bought it and it felt great. I've owned the car for about a year and half and in the past 6 months I've only had the car in my possesion for about 1 month, the rest of the time it has been and out of the shop for major repairs. Engine and transmission have been taken out of the car twice (Timing Chain), multiple oil leaks, replaced MAF, new fuel system, all the plugs and coils have been replaced, upper control arm bushings have gone, new head gasket......and I'm still having problems as I write this.
I went to pick it up Saturday this past weekend and within 5 minutes of leaving the shop the CEl was back on again.
At this point I would guess the repairs are up to about 12-15k.
If your dad wants a complete peice of crap, buy an Audi.

You know, the 2010's are available with the 2.0T and Quattro combined. I think they look hot in S-Line form with Titanium Package.

My sister's Beetle was nothing but problems. There are only two people I've ever met who had problematic Audi's and VW's, my sister and some guy that drove his 1.8t like a total dousche all of the time.

My A4 convertible with 34K miles caught a minor engine fire recently for what reason, I dont know! Had something to do with the coils, its in the shop and will be sold. Bunch of sensors are now worthless, $1000 job to get it fixed, at a independent guy.
The other, my daily with 95K miles, a B6 1.8T has been mostly trouble-free, other than a minor electrical problem.
They're OK cars, but someone told me, to never keep an Audi over 90Kmi.
