Could someone shed some light on the pros and cons of these for me?

Thanks

Skip them both and get a 2.0T Quattro. End of story. It's more tuneable, looks better, is faster, has better mileage, etc. The 3.0 is a slug and the 1.8T can be fragile.

My wife's car has the 1.8t (auto) and I previously had a 1.8t. (manual)

Driving the auto version (even chipped) the car feels very heavy. Its sluggish off the line and turbo lag is noticeable. Once you get up to speed its ok. The manual is better, it can be fun even on tight mountain roads. Just keep the revs up.

But we got a loaner '09 2.0t while ours was getting a service. THAT is what you want. I know its only a small displacement bump, but it helps off the line and feels like a different car.

Or get an S4.

Get a B6 or B7 S4 and watch the hole you created in the O-Zone grow. I love this car but is is a gas HOG.

However, the sound and torque is intoxicating. When you punch it in 3rd at 60mph and you can feel the torque pulling you into the seat all the way to 100 (on a closed road in Mexico of Course)

I'd go with the 2.0t. its 100 times the better option.

Look, I've had 3 cars w/the 2.0T engine now, a B7 S4, and a B7 RS4. Obviously the RS4 is the bomb, but the 2.0T is not to be sneezed at. My buddy's chipped A4 2.0T S-line Quattro would take an S4. I'm certain of it. $600 and 20 minutes and you have an extra 50 hp and 100 lb-ft.

+1 not only is it very fast and torquey with a flash, but it returns 30 mpg on the highway. Try getting that in a 4.2 V8

I would get a 2.0T with some mods over another S4. The S4 is slow, insanely front-heavy and not particularly fun to drive.

The 3.0 is a cruiser. If you were shopping for an A4 cabrio, that's what I'd suggest.

1.8T became irrelavant when the 2.0T came out; I've owned a 1.8T GTI and now drive the 2.0T

Well to semi-shed light on the actual topic.

I had a 2.0T A4. I got it chipped, put on a downpipe, intake, ect. To make 260ish crank HP.

The 3.2 came stock at 260ish.

If I would go back I would pick the 3.2. Unless you are going K04 or BT setup for high HP. Well I guess the MPG is worse in the V6 then the 4 Turbo.
