We as enthusiasts like cars that age gracefully, but I think the car manufacturers would actually prefer that you find their one-generation-old cars to look dated, so that you feel compelled to buy the new one.

I gotta hand it to Audi... I really didn't think they had much recourse after the slam BMW gave them but nicely done Audi!
But I honestly don't know where BMW goes from here... they can't go the HP wars route because Audi has that pesky RS6...

I predict that BMW will put up a picture of a M3 GT2, which will then get shot down by audi's billboard of the R15. Then BMW will put up a pic of the BMW Sauber F109, and this will go on forever. Hopefully, BMW's ad execs have realized this and will leave it alone.

Audi can just post a picture of ANY new car in their lineup and be nicer than a BMW. The new AUDI's are YEARS ahead in design of anybody else out there. They started with the R8, then S5 and now the whole lineup.
Don't get me wrong i LOVE BMW's to death, even working at a BMW dealership, but i'd take a new Audi over almost any current BMW model right now.
