What kind of oil for S4?

The manual says 5/40.

My GT2 uses 0/40.

I would like to use the same oil for both cars, I currently have a case of Mobil1 synthetic 0/40 for the GT2.

What weight of oil are you guys running?

I believe my RS4 is the same weight as your S4. I didn't see this thread earlier or I'd have checked what's in my garage (I have some Mobil 1 in there). I'll get back to you tomorrow, but I don't think 0W-40 will hurt...

Porsche suggests using 0W-40 Mobil 1 in the 997TT. That is all I have ever used. It can be hard to find at times. So when I do, I always buy a case.

Just use 0w40 for both, I just looked it up, on the mobil1 site it actually mentions it rather than 5w40 for the audi

This is what I remember from reading about oils over the years. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The first number concerns viscosity when cold (i.e., at start up.) The lower the better. The second number is viscosity when warm. I dont see how 5w40 could ever be better than 0w40 except for its affect on your wallet.

Of course they suggest it - it is twice as expensive as their other oils!!

But it is also the best. I wouldn't put anything but 0W-40 in that RS4 brother.

The 0/40 is hard to find. I have only been able to get them at Kragens and nowhere else. Not Costco, not Pep Boys, etc.
