The A5 3.0 TDi feels significantly faster than the S5. (No offense to anyone who has one on order, lol).

woooaaaa... the v6 tdi is faster than the 350hp v8?!?!?!

That is pretty cool. Maybe its just a tq monster.

The question is.... new S4.... v6tt.... worth it over the s5 v8 (no replacement for displacement)

this is a tough choice for this summer

The S5 is half a second ahead to 60, but it definitely feels slower. A chip and the 3.0 TDi will beat it for sure. Unless there are some real snazzy gizmos offered only in the S-model, I just don't see why anyone would want it over the 3.0.

well the s5 has the nicer body kit, wheels, interior, (sits lower?)

when will the s4 be available in the eu?

does the a4 ride very differently from the a5? (sorry for the questions )

I see its the same thing with the 5 series BMW the 535D with the DMS automotive chip is blazingly fast!

The S5 is a nice looking car but for those who want a sleepr, 3.0 TDI A5 with S-line kit seems to do the trick.

The S4 should be here around January '09 according to the dealer. The ride was very similar between the 4 and 5, but the 5 being a little bit tighter IMO. Could be the tires though - the A4 ran 16"s and the A5 was on 17"s (winters). Maybe it evens out with summer shoes on.

I have driven the 335d, and I don't say this because I'm an Audi aficionado, but the A5 is the better driver's car. Who'da thunk it!

Nice write up and thanks for the great pics of the cars, poser.

Heheheh,
Are you telling me if you werent buying for a company car you would STILL get the A4 3.0tdi?

Seriously, havent driven the S5 as it does look good and all but I think Audi should have given it more power, but I always think that about an Audi.

I don't think they could if they wanted to. As I said before, the S and RS lines straddle the M and AMG offering.

With the current 4.2 V8 in the S cars, I can honestly say that I like the 3.0 TDi MUCH better. I've had an S4 with that V8 in it, and I thought it was kind of flat. The diesel just pulls and pulls and pulls - seriously hard. With a chip .. it will be nuts. Shame you americans don't get them. If the S had 400+ HP, it would be a different story, as you still can't compete with the sound of a high-revvin' V8.

Wouldn't get a car like this at all if it wasn't a company car. I need a TT or a GT2 as my weekend warrior ... Tell you what, why don't you order your GT2 now and in one year, I will buy it for 80K! That's like eighty thousand dollars, cash, in your pocket! Guaranteed!

+1

I don't think you guys over at the other side of the pond quite fathom how far diesel tech had progressed over the last few years. These engines are now putting out similar hp #'s to their petrol equivalents but way more tq, they pull and pull and are great fun to drive. Now if we could just get rid of their tractor like sound they'd be pretty much perfect. Apart from the smell
