how these restorations work:

you find a "grey" boat.....(basket-case) . Really all you need is the jig (or "pattern" of the hull) and hopefully most of the hardware........

then you give it to this guy, wait a year and voila.

no.....

all the hardware/gauges get sent to the re-chromer, and they literally REPLACE EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF WOOD ON THE BOAT.

They also put in a "WEST-SYSTEM" or "5200" bottom.....what this is is an epoxy lining of the entire bottom of the hull to prevent water/rot, etc.....this seals it like a drum.

then my friend literally HAND-BENDS every piece of wood on that boat (BY HAND)......and glues/dowels it in place (wow!!) . then about 30 coats of varnish, re-assembly, plumb in a new marin-ized GM 350 or 496HO, and you're a wrap.

 

Wow Ian, that is NUTS! Such fine detail to everything, better than new!

 

oh WAY way better than new.

1. you've got fuel-injected power (i.e; it STARTS)
2. these were originally all hand-built at the factory, lots of "variations" ....i do find that cool however
3. west-system bottoms DONT leak
4. the finish we do is in a different league with what they did back then

 

5. you use it the way it is meant to be used... no boat house queens.

 

6. get the bitches.
