The Don Aronow Memorial Race was held last Friday. for the first time in over 20 years we had a real open water ocean race again. From Sunny Isles (Miami ) to Bimini and back.

I hd the honor to be on the Don Aronow boat called "The Cigarette". This was the first race boat that Don ever owned that was built by one of his own companies...Formula Marine.

It is a 1963, 23 foot Formula with a 409 cu in engine with dual 4 barrel carbs. We took a first place in our class and completed the run in 2 hours and 9 minutes.

We had a fantastic time and had a 23 boat turnout for the event.

Notice we had the boat period correct....no seats or bolsters.

Don actually had three race boats called "The Cigarette"....and none of them were Cigarettes.

This boat was a Formula, he also had a 27 foot Magnum and finally the 32 foot Cary alll with that famous name.

 

I can't even imagine how he stood without any bolsters to the side or behind!

WHAT!?! HOW COME I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS? I would have loved to have gone. Is there one next year?

 

We are letting some time pass before we decide .....so many people promised to come out for this and in the end we had 23....but it should have been a lot more and it all went for a great charity....Take Stock in Children
