Sarnico Arcidiavolo.

The Arcidiavolo GT concept boat from Cantieri di Sarnico will become a production AND race boat.
The tests completed by the prototype have confirmed that the “overturned tricycle” hull designed by Renato Sonny Levi and interpreted in modern form by Victory Design possesses qualities that deserve to be applied in both the recreational and competitive sectors.

The 'street' version will be equipped with two turbo diesel Yanmar blocks of 480 horse power for a maximum speed of 69 mph.
The standard model is white, but metallic paint and custom graphics will also be available allowing customers the chance to personalise their already exceptional crafts.
Sporting character can be added to the daring Arcidiavolo GT, which can be enriched and refined with accessories like leather upholstery, cabrio tops and a bow cabin with bathroom.
There are also options for tuning; steel propellers and exclusive helmets branded with the Arcidiavolo logo, not to mention high power stereo systems.

The GT S version will be even more aggressive and will be driven by two Mercury Racing engines of 850 horsepower each.
This model will not be available for pleasure boating and will only be used in sporting events, or by licensed pilots and will reach (according to the data provided by the project) a maximum speed of 92 mph (about 150 km/h).
This special edition (which will be built in a limited production capacity only) will have numbered identification plates indicating the name of the owner and is already being dubbed a collector's item.

Very interesting and cool, although what class will it compete in as it is not a cat and it is not a "v" hull, I can only assume that like most combo's, it will out run v's but not be able to keep up with a cat with similar power. In saying that I can't wait to see it run.

Arcidiavolo - the history Arcidiavolo:
a story of thirty-five years ago. It was the year 1972 when the businessman Giorgio Tognelli became the protagonist of this story.
To please some friends and increase the number of the participants of the first Offshore race in the Adriatic Sea he enrolled himself in the race with his pleasure boat, a monohull cabin cruiser made of marine wood built by Acquaviva shipyard with two 100 hp sterndrive engines.
His great skill and the good luck led him to win the powerboat challenge, the first in his life, the Bellaria-Opatja.
Theoretically he should not have taken part in the return race, from Opatja to Bellaria, because of business commitments but sometimes the strong desire to win has a special flavour and changes people’s fate.
Thus Giorgio Tognelli postponed his engagements and decided to run also the second race. He won again. The passion for powerboat race was definitively born.
He also participated in all the following competitions of that season and finally he obtained the title of Italian Offshore Champion Class 2.
At that time in Italy the term “offshore” was used to indicate a race “far from the coast” and it did not only represent, as it happened later on, the catamarans.
Giorgio Tognelli, overwhelmed by this passion, decided to go to Cowes, the temple of the regatta, to see the legendary Cowes-Torquay, a 200 mile race in the Channel.
In his Italian adventure, Giorgio Tognelli had as co-pilot Antonio Soccol which was expert on powerboat racing.
The two drivers met in England Renato Sonny Levi, a famous boat designer with a strong attitude to innovation.
They immediately began to think about the project of a new faster boat. Obviously it would not have had a cabin but it would have been named like the previous one: “Arcidiavolo”.
They all agreed to test something revolutionary: a trimaran hull, supported on three points: the two lateral sides and the central V hull at the stern.
As during the competition the sterndrives broke easily, it was decided to use a surface drive for the first time on a racing boat.
The boat was built by Acquaviva shipyard in Bellaria. The first trimaran with surface propellers had been born. Its technical details were: length 10 m, beam 2,5 m, displacement 3,5 t, ratio weight/power 8,75 kg per hp.
It was such an innovative project with so many technical features that it took almost one year to fit all the mechanical components.
Anyhow this test brought important results: unlike other racing boats neither trim tabs nor ballast boxes were necessary to cruise in rough sea.
Unfortunately during the following season they faced several technical problems. Giorgio Tognelli did not give up and decided to build another Arcidiavolo, similar to the first one but lighter and with lower sides, obviously with the same extraordinary hull.
It was worst than ever: 13 races and 13 retirements due to technical issues.
But one thing was really clear: during the competition Arcidiavolo was ever ahead the other competitors.
There were no video camera to film the race. The only evidence was that Arcidiavolo always appeared retired in the standings. Nobody believed in the qualities of that boat.
When in 1976 during the Grand Prix of Rome people saw Arcidiavolo to be the first to cross the finishing line, everybody thought that it had withdrawn from the race. The judges had to be convinced by several witnesses that the boat had run the entire distance of 189 miles.
The exulting crew was composed as ever by Giorgio Tognelli and Antonio Soccol. But the disbelief had to be dissolved more blatantly. To support the value of the team and the designer Renato Sonny Levi they decided to challenge the speed record of the Offshore Class 2 category.
In Sarnico, on 20th August 1976, in the presence of the timekeepers, under the control of the Union International Motonautique, Arcidiavolo set the new world record of the category with a speed of 67,69 knots. Now that everybody knew the real performances of the boat the designers were satisfied. Nothing would have destroyed this myth but also nothing would have happened anymore.
Since then nobody decided to used that hull. Nobody until now!
The new project was realized by Brunello Acampora (Victory Design) who designed the hull and the deck, whilst Cantieri di Sarnico introduced the concepts of quality, perfection in construction, refinement of the details and excellence in the fitting out.

catmando is an unknown quantity at this point
I would like to see more of the hull from different angles. This is my boat from the opposite design perspective;
