TWO-WHEEL LOWDOWN: 2008 Triumph Street Triple

TWO-WHEEL LOWDOWN: 2008 Triumph Street Triple - AutoWeek Magazine
New, smaller alternative to the Speed Triple 1050-cc that started the European naked-street-fighter class. 675-cc, 107-hp, liquid-cooled inline triple; 367-lb dry weight; quarter-mile in 11.15 sec @ 123.28 mph (est)

Strip down the Daytona 675 sport bike, add a tubular handlebar and signature hooligan lights from the Speed Triple, retune for more midrange torque. This combines the sport-bike handling of the Daytona 675 with the hooligan looks of the Speed Triple. The gem of a triple motor howls, with big torque hitting from 6000 rpm and front wheel lofting at 8000 rpm. Comfortable, upright seating with good bar leverage, all with sport-bike handling. It saves thousands over the Speed Triple.

HIGHLIGHTS: Radial master cylinder. Six-speed gearbox. Three-into-one exhaust. Multipoint sequential EFI. 51 ft-lb @ 9100 rpm.

COMPETITIVE SET: Aprilia SL 750 Shiver, BMW F800S, Ducati Monster 696, Kawasaki Versys, KTM 690 Duke, Moto Guzzi Breva 750, Suzuki SV650

BASE PRICE: $7,999

ON SALE: Now

IN OUR OPINION: Sharp middleweight handling with a lighter-bike punch.

I think i'd rather have the torque of the Speed Triple for a naked bike. I do love the Daytona 675 though.
