[WARNING! Deep philosophical point coming...] And you know what? I think it's great that you do. Because I feel no need to convince you of what I find appealing and what I don't find appealing, and I likewise don't feel compelled to sway your opinions to mine. Not that you probably thought any differently when you said that, but as I'm still the new guy around here I just thought I'd share who I am.
Ok, I'm done being mushy now. And just for the record, you're wrong.

Actually, I concur. The italians for the most part have been able to keep some timeless restraint in their designs. The japanese, not so much, mostly IMO because of the stupid graphics designed by some 8 y/o and a sharpie.
Counter-example. Friend of mine has an R1 like this ... gaaahhhh it's so beautiful!

On the other end of the spectrum ... this looks good ... but just can not age well.

Another example.
Duc' 916. I'd still buy that. And ride it. And park it in my living room.

Same era ZX9R. eeeesh.

I think that's what it is. I like subtle, and the Japanese bikes tend to be a bit over the top for me. But then again, they look better than this thing:

Totally badass bike, but fugliest thing I've ever seen! Looks like Frankenstein decided to piece together a superbike while drunk.

I may seriously consider trying for a used one at some point.
