Thinking about a Ducati Multistrada 1200

I currently ride a BMW F800GS and am seriously considering getting a Multistrada. It's versatility intrigues me. Ive now been riding for just under 1 year and am loving it. Still only doing short 25 mile trips every few days. I'd rate myself as an "experienced novice" rider and have in no way mastered the F800GS. But I am liking the Ducati more and more. Any advice from fellow TS bikers would be appreciated.

I test rode a 1200S a week or so ago and I was very impressed by it. The 4 modes were nice, can definitely feel the difference in each mode. I'm not sure how much time you spend off road, but I think your F800GS would be better in that area. Other than that, Ducati has nailed it yet again. Great handling, more power than I expected, and an overall nice ride. Hopefully I can pick one up and ride it up to the GP race at Laguna Seca this year.

I'm absolutely interested in this bike. My last bike was a 999, and it was amazing. But I'm finally out out of the crotch rocket phase, and want something that is versatile yet powerful and non-boring. This bike fits the bill. I've been riding since I was a kid, and that goes all the way back to when Sears was selling mini-bikes that had the pull cord to start...

This bike has something for everyone.

Get it!!!

Thanks for the responses fellas.

Ara, my riding is almost all asphalt hilly windy country backroads with the occasional gravel or dirt road.

This bike is looking better and better... I just hope it's not taller than the 800GS.

Chokeu2, ahh those were the days eh! Pull chord to start! or the kick starter which would only work after the 20th kick. ;-)

Well I'm going down to the dealer on Friday to have a look see. Yum.

I'm also picking up a pair of Sidi Adventure boots. Hooray!

I don't think it's taller than the 800GS. I will say this though, if this your first big twin, you'll want to keep it in the Urban and Enduro modes in the beginning. The torque is pretty overwhelming and with the short gearing, this bike can be looped fairly easily.
