Tesla P85D
#31
No question, that P85D is almost the fastest on drag strip.
There are lots of political issues behind all the hybrid - electric stuff. The car manufactorers have to fulfil the specifications for their fleet consumption and there are lots of tricks to carry out calculations.
E.g. calculation for plug-in hybrid vehicles: go through a ~11 km (~6,835 miles) route twice, once electric, once ICE. Only the fuel consumption counts. No CO2 from battery. So customers are astonished, why their fuel consumption deviates from the forecast level. They paid a lot more, but can't achieve that fuel consumption as promised.
E.g. Tesla's battery swap stations will help it requalify for ZEV credits in California. Tesla had been selling its excess ZEV credits to other auto companies. This was one of the reasons why Tesla turned a profit on a GAAP basis last year.
I guess, there isn't the global environmental benefit as claimed, but lots of politics, deception and dishonesty.
Legally binding targets for new passenger cars to emit max. gCO2/km (acc. european NEFZ*-Cycle [NEDC])
..........USA.....EU....Japan.....China
2015....160.....130.....125......170.....gCO2/km
2020....120......95......105......117.....gCO2/km
Calculation for a specific vehicle:
EU 2015 --> CO2 = 130 gCO2/km + 0,0457 · (vehicle weight in kg – 1.372 kg)
EU 2020 --> CO2 = 95 gCO2/km + 0,0333 · (vehicle weight in kg – 1.372 kg)
*unrealistic for customer determination of the emission of pollutants, because the total test time amounts to 1180 s with an average speed of 33.6 km/h (20,88 mph)

I've agreed:
E63 AMG S is faster 11:72.7
Watch the vid what happens, if you drag twice in 5 minutes with electric:
......................0-62......0-100......0-155 mph
1. attempt.........4,6.......10,8........20,6 .....sec
2. attempt.........6,3.......14,3...............5 min later

It makes the impression, that all electric and hybrid stuff is more some kind of religion, than science. Customers have to believe, that everything is 'green' 'ecologically sustainable'.
Advertising is at full stretch.
If potential buyers wants to check out an 195/50R20-215/45R20 wheel i8 acc. to BMW revolution/an icon of progress/Ultimate Driving Machine at 'BMW-Niederlassung', they have to contact the "BMW i PRODUCT GENIUS" - genius salesperson.
Also i-production is acc. to BMW 100% green energy. Acc. to BMW: 'The energy-intensive carbon fibre manufacturing process was set up in Moses Lake, USA, because it can be operated there using clean energy from one of the world's largest hydroelectric power plants – the Grand Coulee Dam.'
What does it mean? The people of Washington behave harmful to their environment. They are using dirty energy, of course, because BMW takes the clean energy away for their energy-intensive carbon fibre manufacturing process.
It's simply ridiculous.
More religion? Tesla claims, that the 4WD dual motor 85D is more efficient than the P85 family, because of more efficient recuperation on front axle. Brakes are more efficient on front axle, but recuperation don't care front or rear. It would have been some fresh scientific discovery, more weight, more friction, more rotating mass inertia means greater efficency.
So no surprise, the P85D is obviously roughly 16% less efficient in real world.
