Auction vs PP

Auction vs PP
When one considers all the expenses when purchasing a particular car at one of the better auctions, are there any savings versus PP?
I am not looking for a rare vehicle, that can only be found at Barrett or Mecum, but a late model Ford GT and I am seeing prices go up over the last couple of years and starting to get beyond my grasp. This is going to be my retirement toy that I have been saving for, for a long time.
My second choice if things get crazy, is a '73 Porsche 911s or a split window vett. Perhaps I can turn around a 911 or other vehicle enough to get me caught up to where I can afford the Ford.
There are many factors that can influence prices, such as the Ford really sky rockets and becomes a half million dollar vehicle and the split window and Porsche don't keep up.
Am I dreaming?

I dont think the ford will get there. I wish it would though. They don't come through the major auctions very often yet. It's hit or miss.
Mecum is more likely an auction for them. Start by contacting the major retailers of second hand exotics and pretty soon you will get a feel for wht you can get the car for
