Mosler Photon
#24
One of my favorite brands ever! I don't know many brands that can make cars like Mosler does, witch such a progression margin. Like they say, from the track to the road. Just imagine this thing with a Nelson Racing 1800hp engine. Maybe one of the best ideas ever?

I love the Mosler in general. I would probably stick with the "regular" MT900S. There are a couple problems with the Photon I read.
1) The Hewland sequential didn't shift properly(although that was the first test of it and probably fixed)
2) It is sequential, I would just prefer driving a manual for the fun factor
and 3) The rear tires are narrower than the S which reduced the rear grip exiting corners - something they can probably easily change for you
So the real difference is manual vs sequential shifting. Other then that this is probably THE fastest road car. I bet this would beat the new ACR lap time considerably. The early interiors I wasn't a fan of but I do like the new ones. Enough inside but still focused.
I can't wait to see what that Raptor is. Bring it on Mosler.

I agree; I would be VERY interested to see what a Mosler would do at the 'Ring with a qualified driver. For reference, a Mosler MT900S beat a Viper ACR by three seconds around VIR for Car and Driver's Lightning Lap!

Interesting that the author of the article seems to infer Mosler is on the same "level" as Pagani, Koenigsegg, etc. What do you guys think? Personally, I disagree. Things like build-quality, reliability, etc. keep it in the "kit-car" category IMHO. Nothing against the Mosler cars..they are excellent in their own right, they just don't seem to be in the same league of "supercar".
Is there a category or label for "cars that are born on the track and converted for street" other than "homologation special" ?

A Mosler to me is a track focused hardcore special for a select group of enthusiasts who really get it. I've been to the factory, seen how they're built, and sat in one. It's a top-notch car in terms of fit and finish, with fantastic engineering. Further, they've gone through the difficult process of getting full certification from the various U.S. regulatory bodies, something that not all makers of similar type cars can say. And it bests many of the more "mainstream" exotics in the performance tests that they all brag about. Others will of course disagree, but if it's not a supercar, then I don't know what is.

Agree 100% It's definitely a "supercar". I just thought the peer comparison to Pagani was odd. Sure it might roast any of Pagani's cars on a track or in a straight line, but that's where the supremacy ends.
As you say, it is all about the end goal for the owner. Mosler's are very cool cars. I was hoping though by now that they would have made more differentiation for themselves away from the Corvette parts bin. Maybe it's still too soon. Saleen still uses a lot of Ford gear. A buddy of mine compared the Mosler to the Saleen and I think that's fair.
