308 GTBi Questions
I've got my hands on a 81 308 GTBI, 1 owner, and in almost perfect condition. I'm curious if there are any owners or previous owners that can tell me a little bit about the 308 GTBI. Are there any quirks, problems that are common, is it a POS, etc. I honestly dont know anything about this car and any help would greatly be appreciated!

hmm...from what I gather the 1980, 81, and 82's are not really good years for these cars, I would try and go for an 83 if possible to move up to the quatrovalve if possible or where you not really looking for one and this particular 81' fell into your lap?

Interesting overview I found through Google:
Ferrari 308 Buyer's Guide
"The least desirable 308s are the 2 valve injected cars (1980-1982). Although these cars are not as powerful as the other models, the fact is that they are still Ferrari 308s, they look great, they are reliable and even at only 205 HP, they are still peppy. Sure, they aren't muscle cars, but they handle as well as any of the 308s and their lower desirability also means their prices are lower. Lots of people love these 308s and they can be a fantastic bargain. Expect to pay $25K-$35K."

The fuse boxes are known to be old and kind of weak. Alot of people upgrade them. and a "perfect looking" car can still be a nightmare. how many miles are on it? when was the last service? do you work on cars yourself? the 308 can be a great car to work on things yourself if you have the motication

They're all fine cars if they've been taken care of. Unfortunately, with the prices where they are on the 308s, a lot of basket case owners buy them and neglect the cars to the point of destruction.
If you found a one-owner car with good service records, buy it and don't think twice.
Fuse box gremlins are easily solved by any decent independent who knows how to replace it with breakers, so too the other wiring issues like the window motors. If you want more power out of it, you're limited only by the present condition of the engine and the thickness of your wallet. 400+ hp is possible if you're willing to invest the amount you're likely to pay for the car in it.
It's always a good idea to have a PPI done by a Ferrari shop-- find an independent with a good reputation, very few factory authorized shops will do PPIs anymore.
