Yeah, no kidding. The MP4-12C is rapidly moving from a "Some day" $200K car into "no way" $300K+ territory... Makes the SLS AMG look mighty appealing - or even a second-hand Scuderia.

The same person who might pay $16K for louvers over their front wheel arches like the ones McLaren showed at Pebble Beach last year when they unveiled the Special Operations program:

These options are meant to be fairly exclusive and their price helps to ensure that. There will, however, be customers who prefer this look and will have no problem at all covering the extra cost.

I don't see why McLaren should be criticized for offering almost any option for the car - especially one like a more agressive front end that has been requested by many people. The cost to develop something like this and create the molds has to be amortized across what ever limited number of them they expect they can sell, which is further justification for the high cost.

They are "options" though so if you just want a more basic car closer to MSRP that is certainly still available. McLaren's attitude is all about giving customers what they want.

I'm sorry, but they could sell many more at sub 10k and probably actually recoup the costs. This isn't a Veyron.

And louvers for $16k just doesn't compute either. No wonder I can't remember seeing one with them.

I think that it is very clear that Mclaren is going to be like no other car manufacturer. They have a never say "no" policy when to comes to customers. The HS cars were sold for a rumored 400K. Then the customer resold at least 1-2 of them without any trouble. At the same time, they offer upgrades to their existing customers at no cost. It's easy to name other cars and manufacturers that may cost less but this car offers unprecedented customization and performance. If they started with a car that was stacked with carbon and crazy options at 300K, no one would question it. The fact is if you want truly spectacular performance you can buy this car for under 250K. Then if you want it loaded and completely personalized you can have that as well. There is really no other car buying experience like it.

I think its fine. Take the car at 250k.....divide by 3 and you get roughly 83,500. The price of a sick Cayman R or Bxoster Spyder. Then take the 27k for the bumper and divide by 3....you get 9k....roughly the coust of a sick TechArt Bumper for the Porsches.

So it really is relative to the cost of the car --- i see nothing wrong with the price and absolutely LOVE the look of this bumper. My main issue (as if it matters) with the MP4 was the front end - but this TOTALLY fixes it. Awesome.

Problem is this is what the car should have looked like from the start, or the HS version. These are upgrades, so what about the cost of the original bumper that won't be used, so the cost is an EXTRA $27000, way too high, let alone the vented louvers.
