The systems are very progressive in each mode, sport mode is just about right for the road, and if you use track mode on the road you had better make sure its very dry.The main problem with the 12c is that because of the compliance of the suspension you are travelling much quicker than you think you are,so if the systems were not in place only a track god would cope if he was quick enough.
As for fifth gear they wanted to turn off all the systems so they could drift the car for the media effect.Mclaren dont work that way, they are totally focused on getting from A to B as quickly as possible,so the systems like the break steer work with the TC and ABS and everything else, these dont detract from the experience, ive still had my car sideways with the systems on,its just im not fighting against it like they were, its there to help, and at the speeds you are going you need it.
In my opinion when you drive a 12c its just too quick not to have them,it might not be progress to some, but neither was power steering and ABS when they came out.
The nearest analogy i can come up with are modern fighter jets, unstable to be quick but only with the computers to keep them airborn, but try telling a pilot he is not having fun when he can blow everything else off without falling out of the sky.

Some people like Apples, Some people like Oranges. If you can afford to buy a MP4 you can fford to buy a F458. Both are excellent cars well beyond the performance capabilities of us mortals. In the end, it comes down to personal choice and style. I prefer the understated styling with clean interior and mind bending acceleration over the over the top extoverted styling of the F458. The MP4 fits my presonalitybetter. The fact that it has the Hx. and heritage of Senna, Prost and McLaren is a BIG plus too.
