No, the car Road&Track borrowed (twice) was chassis #042 which belonged to a man named Carlton Beal who ran an oil company in Midland, TX. It has since been resprayed in red and is in the hands of a new owner in Northern California now.

Here are some recent photos of that one which the photographer has unfortunately chosen not to make available in a larger resolution.

Not a massive change really, but a massive improvement in my opinion.

The video in this earlier post comes from inside Simon's F1.

Nice, but not exactly the post practical color in the world. I suspect you wont find him wearing a pair of blue jeans in that

#042 has been red since the middle of 2005 and been in the hands of the California owner since March 2006.

#028 was in NorCal with Cliff Meltzer from late 2003 until he sold it at the end of 2005. It spent about a year and a half with an owner in Orange County, CA and then was sold to Tom Price and headed back up North. He had the car back at the Wine Country Classic again this year:

^^^I sat in Tom's car last year. Too bad I didn't make it out again this time.

#028 originally started out in Japan where the owner mounted a wing to it, right?

That's my belief that it began life in Japan and at one point it did wear a non-standard wing similar to those fitted to the F1 GTRs. It belonged to Michael Andretti at one point too. He may have been the car's original owner, however I've not been able to absolutely confirm that detail yet.

You'll recall there is a badge on the rear of the car which remains there even now that reads "Special Order car by Andretti". Seems to imply it went to him first and that badge was fitted to the car when it was in Japan. The pics below with the wing are from 1999, the first two I am not sure of the timing on but were both taken in Japan as well.

Erik seriously ridiculous man. You need a book deal or something on the History of the Brand.

OUcH - Flemke's ride ends up looking a bit like Mr Bean's after he crashed it - hopefully all passengers are OK. It doesn't look too bad, but it will cost a fair bit to repair - perhaps Flemke's exterior colour change may be sooner than he thought?.........

Those are some long skid marks, the joys of no ABS maybe. Lets hope all are well and look forward to Flemke updating us on Pistonheads
