The Official McLaren F1 Thread
#401
This thread was in need of some action and I figure this will do the trick.
It is a video of Jacques Villeneuve lapping Le Circuit Mont Tremblant in Canada a few weekends back during the Rahal "Legends of Motorsport" event. He touches just over 160 mph in the fastest part of the track.

Some rather excellent hires photos of the car he's driving can be seen by clicking on the image below.

Here's a shot of JV at the wheel that was hiding in another gallery:

Lawrence Stroll owns the longtail GTR that JV was driving. He also owns the race track too and many other wonderful toys to drive on it.
Recently his 11 year old son was named to Scuderia Ferrari's young driver program as he's a pretty successful up and coming karting specialist. I can't imagine why?

Mike - thanks for looking out. You're our secret agent in SA.

Great stuff - thanks for looking out!
When you said 'pics' did you mean more than one by chance? I'm curious because in the video it appears the car is wearing its old California license plate at the rear.

That connection played a role for sure, and having a father who can afford to finance his karting career has certainly helped as well, but I'm not sure you should be so quick to take anything away from his son Lance - the kid is seriously fast! My own "I can't imagine why?
" comment was more about the fact that he's got access to his very own race track and a father whose interests have surely encouraged Lance's passion for driving. That's like a dream combination.

Ferrari signs 11-year-old
June 9th, 2010
The Ferrari Driver Academy has taken on a new talent, this time from Canada. At just eleven years of age, Lance Stroll, born on 29 October 1998 in Montreal, is the youngest driver to enter the Maranello program.
Although very young, Lance's karting curriculum is already impressive enough to have attracted the attention of the academy: already on his record are two wins in the Canadian national championship in the Rotax Mini Max category as well as Coupe de Montreal and Coupe du Quebec Micro Max Championship in 2008 and both Mini Max Championships in 2009. Last year, Lance finished sixth in the World Finals at Lonato in the Mini Roc category and second in the Rotax Micro Max Florida Winter Tour, a series he won this year in Mini Max along with the championships for the Tag/Cadet Florida Winter Tour. It is no surprise therefore that Lance was nominated by the Federation Sport Automobile du Quebec as Rookie of the Year in 2008 and Driver of the Year the following year.
"We are pleased to welcome Lance to our group," commented Luca Baldisserri, who runs the Ferrari Driving Academy. "He is very young, but he has already shown in karting that he is exceptionally talented. We will follow him step by step in his forthcoming events in North America and he will soon also take part in our courses at Maranello."

I'm sure the guy that took the photos has more. It doesn't have California plates for definite. It has the lcoal license plates mounted over what ever plate is on the car.
