There is a large amount of damage - yes - but the majority of it is to cosmetic panels which can be replaced quite easily; though not inexpensively.

To the areas of the structure that matter there was very little damage. I have little doubt we'll see chassis 072 repaired and on the road again in the future with no lasting effects from this unfortunate moment beyond the impact to the insurance company's bottom line.

As quickZohsix just noted, the damage to Atkinson's F1 was far more significant - the entire car split in two with the drivetrain (which is a stressed member in the F1) being ripped from the chassis at the point of impact.
