The Official McLaren F1 Thread
#1292
The unique modifications to chassis 040 are things that have been carried out by the owner using outside help over the span of about a decade with much thought and consideration and testing along the way. The McLaren factory has supported him for traditional service work and some cosmetic changes, but they generally have avoided getting involved in altering the spec of items related to performance or safety on any of the cars. There's a liability from a manufacturers standpoint of making changes like that after a vehicle has been certified to a certain spec and so while McLaren are certainly capable of enhancing the F1s with more modern elements, it's not something they have been willing to do.

If you happen to be here and able to attend the Monterey festivities in the middle of August I'd expect at least one F1 will be in town and perhaps on display. Otherwise I'm not aware of any that are sitting around waiting for someone to come and look at it unfortunately.

Gooding and Company will auction McLaren F1, chassis 066, at their Monterey sale in just a few weeks. While their catalog description does not include an official estimate, I can tell you that expectations are for a high 7-figure selling price. Should be very exciting!
