^ It is absolutely stunning, you're right. And I suppose I may be getting caught up a little too much in the 'lack' of HP from this thing. Still a terrifically capable car.

I think the problem is in the engine it's using. The 4.7L, which shares a block and several other main components with that in the F430 is going to really be maxing out around 500 hp. Having such a high-strung engine wouldn't fit with the image of the Quattroporte, no matter how sporty the marketing department would like you to think it does. Something tells me Maserati won't be sourcing their engines from any other companies do to contractual obligations with Ferrari. Maserati's best chance at getting big horsepower would be to go with something like the V12 out of the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, but again, their is a clash with traditional Maserati values, as they have always used V8s (or V6s) in their production cars. Now, that doesn't completely rule out forced induction to the current V8, but that could bring back nightmares of the Bi-Turbo...

In any case, I don't think Maserati will be upping the horsepower ante anytime soon.

As Alzilla stated above plus I heard somewhere that the Tranny is the issue number 2. I wouldn't mind having it as a third ride though...
