7800 redline is still quite good in my books

It's a hard decision to make but if I was to be given those choices, I would ultimately go for the E46 M3.

I've driven both, but I've always been biased since I could take E46 M3s in my Z3M, so I had no incentive in buying a slower car

Z3M Coupe or Z4 M Coupe. M3 is great but too common.

I've had both cars( e46 m3 coupe, non zcp and a z4m roadster) and in my opinion the z4m's performance and fun factor is much higher than that of the e46 m3. Plus as you have mentioned the e46 m3 was far more mass produced than the z4m's and as such it does not feel as "special"
However the e46 M3 was definitely more DD friendly than the z4m(harder to get in/out of, smaller inside as well)

Can't go wrong with either choice though.
