Spied: 2013 BMW M3
The first new M3 test mules surface!

Our trusty Teamspeed spies caught today the first images of the next generation BMW M3. Reports have been swirling now for a bit that BMW is ditching the current models V-8 in favor for a tri-turbo powered V-6 powerplant, A 450 PS (331 kW / 444 bhp) tri-turbo 3.2 liter six-cylinder. According to a BMW Blog source, the triple-turbo engine being developed is the front-runner for the next M3. Undecided, apparently, is the issue of whether it will be an inline-six, as BMW has traditionally built, or a new V6 configuration that will save space under the bonnet.

It's interesting to see this test mule in a four door variant as there were are talks about the next M3 forgoing the sedan route for simply a coupe and convertible. These are just test mules but we think it's pretty safe to assume now there will be a four door M3 for this new generation.

 

Am i the only one more concerned about the motor than the looks? Thanks for the post DJ!

 

3 turbos?! Anyone have more info or some guesses to the layout, whether they are parallel or sequential somehow?

Can someone advise me on how to secure funding for a prototype I am building? It's a hybrid with 5 turbos. Take that BMW!!

 

After looking at the V8 i'd say 3 small turbos in the V lined up offset of eachother each using 2 cylinders. If that makes sense

 

I heard it will be two exhaust gas turbochargers and one electric one.

 

Wait....so no more M3 coupe?
