1er M coupe

i think your bright ideas about modding an 135i to beat this are honestly POINTLESS.
This is a factory car with full scheduled free maintence no issues with warranty claims, it will have better handling than a 135i with just coilovers, there more to handling than coils, and the M department changes many suspension components, limited slip diff, along with wider front fenders to accomodate bigger tires, etc, etc, etc. This car isn't for the buyer that wants to buy it, and then change everything about it. You can purchase this drive off the lot and have an unbelievable car without the stress of voided warranties, not trying to rant just my 2c

Never used to like the styling of the 1 series, but now can't get enough of it. I've seen one 135i in person on the highway. I started teasing him a little bit, trying to edge him on to see what he really had. That thing made the sickest sound EVER. But anyways, what's it actually gonna be called? M1? No. Already been done. 135iM? Doubt it.. Maybe like...

The BMW 1 Series M Coupé partially unveiled at BMW CCA Oktoberfest.
The BMW Car Club of America (CCA) is one of the biggest clubs of drivers of an automotive brand in the world.
At the annual CCA event "Oktoberfest", Dr. Kay Segler, CEO of BMW M GmbH, presented a prototype of the upcoming BMW 1 Series M Coupé to the public for the first time.

I'm more of a leasing type of guy, so I'm hoping this leases out well. But as Harvey said, maybe the sweet spot is picking up a used one. If BMW is smart, and I'm hoping they aren't- they wont import many into the NA Market. Thus maintaining supply/demand.
Don't misunderstand- I really LIKE the idea of this car. But pushing over $50k is just dumb. You can get a brand new M3 at invoice now a days. Which would reduce the actual delta in difference in price of car.
BMW just acts like they're doing us all a favor by making the 1 series; and then bitch slaps you in the face with the absolutely retarded pricing structure on the car.
And I find that just unintelligent. To me, it makes cars like the 997 for mid 70's base price or a CPO 997 a much much smarter move.
"For $50k++ Mr Client you can get this ONE SERIES BMW with cool features and a sweet engine- cute isn't it?
Orrrrrrrrrrrrrr for $30k more you can get this hand finished world class bench mark sports car - and not be laughed at by your wife..."
Orrrrrrrrrrrrrr for $30k more you can get this hand finished world class bench mark sports car - and not be laughed at by your wife..."
You decide.

Not in todays Market. The 'MUST HAVE' emotional purchases are almost completely over. Most buyers today go through - whats the SMARTEST move for my money.

But wait STOPPIE. Emotional buy. What about all these 599 GTO and GT2 RS buyers?!

Currently the base M3 coupe has an MSRP of about 126% of the base 335i coupe. Taking the 126% as a multiplier for the current 135i, the price may be in the $45,775 range.

Chirs, I really appreciate your professional insight. As an enthusiast, I look at things differently. Those two points you make above really resonate with me. BMW has done a great job creating buzz in the social media space for the 1M. But, they will have to do one hell of a job communicating what makes this car so special to a potential new 1M buyer - if pricing is north of $50k. Even if it's a total M parts bin car.
But wait STOPPIE. Emotional buy. What about all these 599 GTO and GT2 RS buyers?!

maybe a few would buy the 1M for a 'cute kick around car'; but not the typical target market.
Buying a car, especially cars like we've mentioned- ARE emotional buys; but a lot of that emotion is snapped back into focus with the 'how much car/whats the smartest move for my money right now and 12 months down the road'.
Back in 2002-2007 people would snatch up the 1M in a nano second. People just blew through money like it was growing on tree's.
Then REALITY hit.
We live in a different world now.
But if I go a different direction, I think (THINK) I'd rather buy the 1M coupe over a Porsche Cayman. But again, if it leases out stupid, then fugghetaboutit. LOL

I`m sure BMW thought about this already...
This car is for younger and less wealthy people...they actually explicitly said that they want to offer an M car that is affordable (for more people) like it was with the E30 M3
So my guess is,as you mentioned, that they will offer badass lease deals and great financing offers with special interest rates
They did this over here with other 1 series cars over and over again...
