BMW Z4 GT3 is the V8-powered Z4 M you can race

PRESS RELEASE:
BMW Z4 GT3

As part of its customer racing programme, BMW Motorsport is offering private teams another attractive car from 2010: the BMW Z4 GT3. This sports car is an impressive addition to the BMW product range and offers drivers and teams the opportunity to compete in international and national championships in accordance with GT3 regulations – such as the FIA GT3 European Championship, International GT Open and the ADAC GT Masters – as well as in 24-hour endurance races.

The BMW Z4 GT3 is powered by a four-litre, eight-cylinder engine producing approximately 480 bhp. When it comes to electronics, the private teams can look forward to innovative BMW solutions, which have proven themselves in the BMW M3 GT2: the engine is controlled by the modern ECU 408, while the Power400 control unit is responsible for operating all actuators. The transmission takes place via a sequential, six-speed gearbox. The scope of delivery also includes rims with locking and safety clips, as well as racing ABS and optional air conditioning.

The BMW Z4 GT3 in its racing version is available from the second quarter of 2010 at an estimated price of 298,000 Euro (plus VAT). If interested, please send an email to Z4GT3@bmw-motorsport.com or send a fax to +49 89 382 208 55.

IMO, this is one of the best looking racers I've seen in a while. Mark my words, when BMW starts to wind down production of the M3, they will built a road going M version of the new Z4.

Great info, B!

Looks menacing! I would love to see this take on a ALMS M3 racecar!

Talking

Edit: I would like to see this Z4 GT3 take on a 911 GT3 R - now we're talking business!

In developing the vehicle, the emphasis was placed on improving driveability and making handling easier. The 911 GT3 R features a four-litre six-cylinder boxer engine delivering 480 hp (353 kW). A six-speed sequential gearbox transmits the power to the rear axle.

The development of the 1,200 kg lightweight 911 GT3 R is based on the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup presented in September 2009 for one-make cup racing. Thanks to a 0.2-litre increase in engine capacity, the GT3 R delivers 30 hp more than its Cup pendant. Both race vehicles are based on the extra-wide body of the street-legal 911 GT3 RS.

Unlikely. The current one is too fat to M-ize to any great degree. Likely they'll do a "hey, we put a M badge on it" M-sport version.

As for this thing, as well, I prefer the old race version of the Z4 Coupe. Can't imagine all that extra weight from the engine does it many favors.

I couldn't have said it better myself. It really is breath-taking!

I hope you're right about a Z4 M with the M3's V8 at some point. I just wish they'd make a true fixed roof version a la the MB Black Series.
