It's a shame to see that motor retired, that's for sure. However, with the introduction of the 3.0 twin turbo and the 4.0 V8 in the current M3, it makes sense. The V8 is a better motor than the outgoing 3.2 I6, it has more TQ, HP, it's lighter, more flexible, and sounds a hell of a lot better. Plus, there really isn't an application where the 3.2 would be a better option than the 3.0 twin turbo setup.

i would say that the S54 went out on top though Highly respectable platform

Sad to see it discontinued ..... I love every thing about that engine including its raspy note

Absolutely. Of course, I'm incredibly biased. Granted, it took a bit of time to get used to the rasp, but on balance, I wouldn't trade it for, well, anything (although, a quality DB5 would more than likely make me reconsider that statement).

That was a great engine. I hope they continue the tradition.

When Carmen first had the OEM (not a copy) CSL decklid installed on his E46, I fell in love with that M and the S54.
