Matt Farah Drives Switzer's "Ultimate Street" GT-R

The wizards at Switzer don’t mess around. Case in point? The new Ultimate Street Edition GT-R. The name itself is almost laughable, because if there’s one thing everyone needs in a street car, it’s 962hp—at the wheels. To be fair, that’s running on racing fuel, but even on pump gas it’ll put down 880hp. Even in these heady days of the horsepower wars, that’s a lot of poke. And relatively speaking, getting your hands on one of these babies is relatively cheap. Between the 2009 GT-R needed for the conversion, and the price of the all the tuning and go-fast bits from Switzer, the total comes out to less than $150k. Not bad for something which will accelerate like a fighter leaving the a carrier deck.

rollin_bentley is an unknown quantity at this point
I'll be more comfortable at about between 600-800hp! Just at a conservative level! With that much hp, won't be a good street car for everyday usability!

this is without any doubt a great technical achievement but then again I am concerned about these insane levels of power high performance cars feature today. I mean I really wonder if this will never stop? I just think we've gone beyond any reasonable limit. How is somebody caring at least a little about speedlimits and stuff supposed to actually use this car or the ferrari f12 or whatever....?

Matt Farah is becoming my new favorite auto journalist/reviewer. He does an excellent job conveying excitement without sounding scripted.

That's why this has 8 different power levels to chose from, on the fly, depending on your fuel type.

Just to clarify, that's 880awhp on the 'horrible' 91 octane fuel in cali, perhaps even closer to 900.

93 octane pump gas power is ~925, and this USE GTR was set up to run on 100 octane that he gets from the pump right down the street every week. Any way you slice it, it's a 1000+HP GTR with the refined mannerisms that make it a joy to drive every single day, just like Justin does, it really is his DD.

Disagree (although I'm biased). It was built to be a daily driver, this isn't some clown driving a dragster on public roads. We have several of these on the road now, and the customers love them. They're just like stock below 2500-3000 rpm and we've seen better than 20 mpg highway as well. Hard to beat that.
