My 4.15L Stoker 350z Twin Turbo

Hey guys,

I have been a member on the site for quite a while. I mostly just observe and check out all of the nice cars and information that everyone has to offer on here. I have felt like I haven't had too much to contribute, but I figured I would finally post up my car and what I have been doing with it just to try and get some feedback.

My car started off as a five speed automatic.

After 4 years it has gone through quite a change. I first went the NA route and did just about every bolt on possible. After about no actual power gains and a lot of money spent, I decided to switch to FI.

I went with a stock block and an APS twin turbo system with a Haltech PnP ECU. I did a valvebody upgrade on the auto tranny. I ended up putting down just under 400rwhp on a Dynodynamics and about 350ftlb at 9psi.

I got to run it at the track and my best time on my street 19's was 12.55 at 111mph with a 2.02 60ft.

The engine started smoking, so I decided to build it. I also decided to swap in a 6 speed and change the turbo kit, I then got a little crazy, and decided to change just about everything else.

I purchased a shortblock from Injected Performance along with a BC 4.15L stroker kit and a buddy and me swapped over everything and had it taken to be tuned at Dynosty here in Lexington.

The specs of the shortblock were:

Brian Crower 4.15L stroker Kit which includes BC 4340 billet steel crank (88mm stroke),100mm bore, CP aluminum forged pistons 8.5:1 CR
Carrillo Rods
ARP Main Studs
ACL Bearings
OEM Full Gasket replacement kit
Cometic Headgasket for increased bore
Darton M.I.D. sleeves
Fully Blanced and Blueprinted

The valvetrain:

ARP L19 Headstuds
Ferrea +0mm intake/exhaust valves
Ferrea full valvetrain (single springs, spring seat locaters, steel valve locks, etc.)

The turbo kit is the following:

APS Extreme Twin Turbo Kit (Dual Garrett GT-30 Hybrids: over 50 lb/min mass air flow from each turbo charger, APS 3.5" Downpipes, 3" True Dual Exhaust, 5" Thick Vertical Flow Intercooler.

I am currently using the APS extreme fuel system which has 880cc injectors, APS fuel rails, dual drop in-take 255lph walbro pumps and two regulators.

The clutch I decided to use was an RPS Max Street 6 puck single disc. I also added DSS axles.

I changed the suspension and brakes during the whole process too.

The car is currently putting down 543rwhp at 16.5psi with just over 500ftlb. This is on a dynodynamics. On a dynojet this would be roughly a little over 600rwhp.

My only limiting factor is the fuel injectors. I duty cycle is pretty much maxed out on the APS injectors. I have just purchased some different high flow fuel rails, an aeromotive regulator, and PTE 1200cc injectors. This will allow me to turn up the boost and get some more power. I am also going to put in some race gas and see what she will put down.

Here is how the car currently sits:

I had som various problems through the tuning process. Turns out one of the turbos was bad, so I had the shop take the turbos off and send them to Garrett to get rebuilt. You have to drop the motor to get them out.

Here are some other various pics throughout the process:

Damn! Got to love cars that take this kind of progression. Definitely puts a hurting on your wallet doing many phases, though. Very nice build, look forward to your updated 1/4, 60-130, etc. times. Do you have any vids?

Really nice build! It's cool to see the progression and see the car torn apart in various stages of the build. Sounds like a beast of a car though.

Enjoy!

Thank you! Not yet. I was contacted by a photographer who has had many features and covers in some tuner magazines. He is forwarding some pics and info to some so hopefully I will get a feature.

I would do it again, except I would have done a few things differently. I would not have done the NA route. Just a waste of money with the VQ. I would have also done a built block from the beginning instead of trying to boost the stock one. The turbo's would have been sent out to be inspected from the beginning, instead of after the motor had been put back in.

I originally tried putting an AEBS 4.3L used stroker motor in it that was apparently good, but once we started it, it was knocking lol. That's when I decided to go for a brand new shortblock lol. I would not have done this lol.

Here is a video of that.

YouTube - 350z 4.3 Liter Stroker Engine APS Extreme Twin Turbo First Start-Up

And the biggest thing I wish I could have done different was buy a manual from the get-go

But all in all, I love the car. I am so glad to have it back after all of this. It took about 6 months to complete. I am just waiting to get some warmer weather now. That, plus some new injectors. There will be nothing but smiles on my face. I am lucky to have a lot of friends with a lot of knowledge that helped me during the process. I think without them, none of this would have been achievable.

Thank you! I have tons of pictures of the whole build. I definitely learned a whole lot during it all.

Here is a video of it the first and only time I took it to the track before the big build.

YouTube - Twin Turbo 350z 1/4 run on streets.

Here are some videos during the tuning process. My old HKS SSQV is on at during these. I now have the Tial:

Here is a very very crappy video my friend took with his phone. It was his first time in it. The temperature was around 34 degrees outside. Traction is definitely an issue.

The gauges are almost done. Just need to hook up my dual AFR gauge and I will be done.

I am getting a GoPro camera in a couple weeks. I will get some good videos with that. By then, I should also have the new injectors and new tune. Thanks again guys

Hell of a build.

Good to see some 350Z guys get it. The Z owners around here think their Zs are the end all be all. When really their wallets are lighter (doing NA build) and they aren't going much faster.

Rep to you my friend!!
