Better yet.
Duplicate layer, desaturate completely or just that overbearing color, that's up to you.
Mask the elements you want to keep.
Than you can play with the opacity to fine-tune how much decoloration you actually want.

3. Use selective color or hue/saturation to get rid of all the magenta and yellows in the background
