Lexus LFA Nürburgring package
Lexus LFA Nürburgring package - Times Online
The Lexus LFA Nürburgring is proof that even if money can’t buy you taste, it can at least buy a better class of driving lesson. The Japanese company has launched a bespoke package for 50 buyers of the 500 LFAs to be built worldwide, to help them master the devastatingly fast machine.
Called the Nürburgring package, it comes with all the usual sort of mechanical tweakery petrolheads would expect from a supercar builder: a larger rear spoiler for more downforce, revised suspension settings for added high-speed composure, high-grip track tyres, an extra 10bhp and faster shifts between sequential gears. But it is what awaits prospective owners at the Nürburgring race circuit in Germany that marks the package out.
There, LFA drivers will enjoy use of a private parking space, and on stepping out of the car, they will be greeted by their own driving instructor, well versed in the dark art of controlling priceless supercars around the treacherous twists and turns of the 13-mile circuit. Completing the package is an annual season pass allowing them unlimited laps of the Nürburgring.
It’s a strategy that not only makes a £336,000 car £55,000 more expensive, but also makes its owners better drivers. Apparently.
Instead of cruising through the streets of Monaco doing wheelspins, drivers will be mastering its 562bhp from the 4.8-litre V10 and ensuring that they don’t overwhelm the traction of the rear tyres. Or, if they do, they will at least know how to regain control while the engine is spinning at 9000rpm.
Apart from the tweaks and driving lessons, the LFA Nürburgring is the “standard” car: a two-seater built around a carbon-fibre monocoque structure, which helps keep the kerb weight down to 1,580kg. It accelerates from standstill to 62mph in 3.7 seconds and steams on to 202mph, which comfortably places it in the upper echelons of supercar society.
If you aren’t keen on the orange coloured paint, there is also a choice of black and white or, for the ultimate in extravagance, matte black, which costs an extra £15,000, nudging the total price of an LFA Nürburgring package to £406,000.
Still, it comes with some credibility after an example raced its way to win the near-production (SP8) class in the demanding Nürburgring 24-hour race two weeks ago.

Verdict Makes a Lexus supercar even more tempting
- Each of the 50 cars comes with a season pass to drive at the Nürburgring, a private parking space and personal driving tuition.
- Gearshift gap times have been cut to 0.15 seconds (from 0.2 seconds) and suspension, wheels and tyres uprated.
- Only 50 LFA Nürburgring models will be built, at a premium of £55,000 over the standard LFA
- If you don’t like the garish paint job, you could always pay an extra £15,000 and have matte black

I do give them credit for this. That is pretty cool. A pass drive the circuit, and an instructor. That is pretty cool. That being said, I would only get this car if I had the 30 other exotics I like, and only for the reason that it would be cool to get driving instuction on the N.
