Bodybuilding style "dirty bulk"

Since putting on weight for me is a painful process at best (I can work for months on eating just right and a cold or flu will wipe out the results) I decided this time around to do a "dirty bulk" which means although protein is kept high a liberal amount of calorie dense junk food is used to keep total daily cals high.

For my purposes I've kept my diet similar to what it normally is, mostly meats and brown rice. I've added 3 daily EAS chocolate protein shakes. That stays pretty consistent on a day to day basis.

However, most days there will be add in's like:

3+ beers (300-400 cals)
1 package of milano orange cookies (800 cals)
1 package buitoni chicken and prosciutto tortellini (900+ cals)
Five guys bacon burger and fries (over 1000 cals)

You get the idea. All of this has been working. I'm right about 180 lbs at this point in under 2 months, a 15 lb gain. I'm targeting 185 in 2 months.

There is a downside to this of course. I just got my bloodwork back and LDL as well as total cholesterol is up to borderline high levels from well into normal before. White blood cell count is a little low as well which is pretty worrisome. I have gotten sick 3 times since moving to Seattle but chalked it up to climate change. Maybe it's the diet, damn!

In any case, the experiment will continue to it's conclusion, but I'm really looking forward to cutting fat. My next experiment is going to be cutting using Tim Ferris' 4 hour body method which is basically paleo with beans/lentils and a massive cheat day once a week. Stay tuned!

Why do this to yourself, I have learned over many years just keep a good solid lean figure and dont try to morph into something you arent. The long term results are never good. Lean and fit is always good think Bruce Lee, Newman, McQueen etc not Arnold.

The main issue in what you're doing is whats going to happen once you stop the intake of all the BS. unfortunately, you're intaking too many empty calories, that if you even vary a little bit from your work out will go to the production of fat cells, not muscle. Stick to bulking on the basics, pure, clean food, and lots of it- with a few protein drinks to match. But keep the food as clean as possible. Trust me, you do NOT want the after effects of what you're eating now.

why calling it BB style?

eating junk does not equal to doing BB

sure you might be an ectomorph by nature but getting in enough kcal /nutritients can be done without beer etc as well

shakes is a good way to start from...
the occasional cheat meal at a fast food joint might not hurt too much either...but remember...you`re natural and your body can only process so much at a time...protein synthesis is limited and what it takes in this sport is discipline, consistency and patience / time

Sounds like the first couple of years of college for me. In N Out across the street and a slew of all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ places not too far away made for rapid and (intensely) unhealthy weight gain. So glad to have lost all of that (and more) now...what was I even thinking???

But it could just as easily be called Dave Tate style.

Why? Because I wanted to try this style of weight gain out. Because I've "done it right" more than once and I'm not interested in proving that to myself. Basically an experiment into something I've always trash talked in the past. Walk a mile in another man's shoes and all that.

I'm not a newb who listened to bro #428 on the internet saying "just eat more bro, ****ing eat cake!", I've done this with experience behind me and open eyes. And yes, the bloodwork verifies what you might think about such a technique for a natural person. (Who knows what it'd look like on gear)

Also keep in mind that this isn't an eat shit all day diet. Most of my meals are ground beef or chicken breasts with brown rice and protein shakes. I think that after my fat cutting if I want to put more on I'll compare/contrast a "clean" weight gain.
