It appears RufMd's theory of the the tires playing a factor in the crash was true, besides the speeding of course.
"We've learned the experts have told the family ... a car going speeds approaching 90 MPH will lose traction after hitting a series of Botts' Dots. It's akin to driving on ice -- and control is further compromised by the fact that the Porsche was outfitted with special racing tires that have very little tread."

In the hands of a race driver, control is not compromised by the lack of tread. It's actually better. Whoever said that is a tad off, unless the pavement was wet or something. The dots didn't help, but the car could "hook up" better after. I guess it could have "hooked up" a little to good, but their verbiage is wrong.
